When Rest, Physio and Injections Haven't Been Enough — Shockwave Therapy in Brighton & Hove
Brighton and Hove's most advanced shockwave clinic. EMTT, focused and radial shockwave — all under one roof.
Most people come to us after trying other things. A course of physiotherapy that helped but didn't fix it. Steroid injections that wore off. Being told the NHS waiting list is months away. If that sounds familiar, you're in the right place.
At Hove Shockwave, we offer three types of shockwave therapy — including EMTT, the most advanced generation of shockwave technology — alongside specialist treatment for men's health and NESA neuromodulation for chronic pain conditions.
All treatments are carried out personally by Dr Lewis Kingsnorth DC MChiro, a certified shockwave specialist and qualified chiropractor with nearly 20 years of clinical experience.

What We Treat
Conditions We Treat
Here are some examples, but not limited to all the conditions we treat - Please ask
Plantar Fasciitis Or Achilles Tendinitis
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, caused by damage to the thick band of tissue under the foot. Shockwave therapy is clinically proven to resolve chronic plantar fasciitis — often when other treatments have failed. We also treat Achilles tendinopathy. On-site X-ray available to rule out fractures and heel spurs.
Knee Pain
Patellar and quadricep tendinopathy respond well to shockwave therapy, as does knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. Whether your pain is above, below or behind the kneecap, we can assess and treat it. On-site X-ray available to assess osteoarthritis and other knee pathology.
Tennis And Golfers Elbow (Epicondylitis)
Tennis and golfer's elbow are caused by overloaded tendons at the elbow joint — common in office workers, tradespeople and gym users, not just racquet players. Shockwave therapy stimulates tendon repair and provides lasting pain relief where rest and injections have not.
Shoulder Pain (Rotator Cuff Tendonitis, Frozen Shoulder-Calcific Also)
Shockwave therapy is highly effective for chronic shoulder pain caused by rotator cuff tendinopathy, impingement and calcific tendinitis. Focused shockwave can break down calcium deposits without surgery. On-site X-ray and MRI access for accurate diagnosis.
Why Patients Choose Hove Shockwave
Three shockwave technologies in one clinic — we match the right technology to your diagnosis rather than applying a one-size approach.
On-site digital X-ray — we can confirm your diagnosis properly before treatment begins, not guess.
Dr Kingsnorth is a certified shockwave specialist — not a generalist who has added shockwave as an add-on service.
EMTT available — one of fewer than 30 clinics in the UK offering this more advanced technology.

What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy is a clinically proven, non-invasive treatment that uses targeted acoustic energy to stimulate healing in damaged muscles, tendons and soft tissue. It is recommended by NICE, approved by the FDA, and used across the NHS and in professional sports medicine worldwide.
When pain has been present for more than three months, the body's natural healing response often stalls — the tissue enters a chronic state where it is no longer actively repairing itself. Rest alone will not restart this process. Shockwave therapy does.
The acoustic waves delivered during treatment create controlled micro-trauma at the cellular level, which triggers several important responses: increased blood flow to the affected area, release of growth factors and stem cell activation, breakdown of calcified deposits and scar tissue, and a direct pain-relieving effect through overstimulation of nerve endings.
Put simply, shockwave takes a tissue that has become stuck in a chronic state and restarts the healing process — moving it back into active repair. Patients often report long-term resolution of their pain and mobility loss, without recurrence or the need for ongoing top-up treatments.
Duration and Frequency of Shockwave Treatments?
Treatment sessions usually last 15-20 minutes, depending on the size and location of the affected area.
Erectile Dysfunction treatments are 30 mins.
Most people need between 4 to 6 sessions to see significant improvement, although in some cases more sessions are needed.
Initial Appointments are 30 minutes to allow time for an assessment, treatment and aftercare.
What to Expect From Shockwave?
Pain Relief
Fast pain relief and reduction in inflammation - The machine has multiple settings for each body part. The frequency and depth of the acoustic waves can be adjusted accordingly. Shockwave is effective at reducing pain and inflammation.
Move Better
Improved mobility and flexibility - Improvement to muscle, tendon and ligament health, which can have a positive outcome upon joint movement, gait and biomechanics.
Reset Healing
"It effectively takes a tissue from a chronic state to an acute state, and in doing so provides a stimulus to a stalled repair sequence"

Overall, shockwave therapy is a useful tool for managing musculoskeletal conditions and improving quality of life. It is an important part of a comprehensive treatment plan that may include other therapies such as chiropractic, massage and lifestyle changes.

EMTT — the next generation of shockwave technology
Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) is the most advanced form of shockwave-based treatment available. Unlike conventional shockwave which uses acoustic waves, EMTT delivers high-intensity magnetic pulses that penetrate deeper into the tissue — reaching structures that radial and focused shockwave cannot.
EMTT is completely painless and "touch-free" — the applicator does not press against the skin, making it ideal for swollen joints, sensitive areas, or patients who find conventional shockwave uncomfortable. If you are able to have an MRI, EMTT will be suitable for you.
We are one of fewer than 30 clinics in the UK offering EMTT. It is often used in combination with shockwave therapy to maximise results — and is the same technology used by Premier League football clubs and elite sports organisations for player recovery.
Conditions where EMTT is particularly effective
Arthritis — including shoulder, knee, hip, hands and elbow
Herniated discs and lower back pain
Chronic pain, radiculopathy and nerve-related conditions
Sports injuries — tendon overload, osteitis pubis, chronic inflammation
Post-surgical rehabilitation and non-healing injuries
Benefits of EMTT
Completely painless — no discomfort during treatment
Touch-free — no pressure on tender or swollen areas
Reaches deeper tissue than conventional shockwave
Fast results — often noticeable within the first few sessions
No reported side effects beyond occasional mild redness
